Reflection

Overall I am not too happy with my final outcome as it ended up being very rushed so is quite unfinished. I definitely think the tone works as I think the music and editing does give the sense of triumph and hope I wanted. Due to timing, the whole video definitely needs more type. I had hoped to make it similar to a lyric music video and have most words said in the background displayed, but currently I have very little. Also, I think the print worked really well so I definitely would want to include more of them as the digital bits were the least effective. When talking to the tutors they loved the silver colour of the etched type which was the best one, so I think I'd keep that colour scheme if I were to redo it and keep to more metallic colours rather than bright blue and red.

One very large problem was that the space helmet wasn't large enough to accomodate everyone's head and hair. This definitely would need changing as it's very unfair to not be able to show everyone the work. I think the VR was a very fun idea and I like the premise, but definitely needed more time to get working properly. I got more good feedback from people seeing the projection than the VR. I also think the helmet and video feel very seperate, so I should have considered how to place them together a bit more.

If I had a lot more time I would have liked to consider sound design more. With surrounding speakers the noise of the blast would be much more immersive. I would also have liked to try to animate the text in after effects to make it a little bit more exciting.

This project as a whole really pushed me and was way out of my comfort zone. I had never done video editing before so that was very new, and I hadn't learnt anything about typography before. I was definitely surprised at how much I loved printmaking compared to the video editing as I've always been much more of a digital media type person in the past. The prints were by far the most rewarding part of this project and I would definitely like to try and explore that further in future projects as I didn't manage to do much in the time.

One thing I want to take forward to the next project is better time management, as that's something I struggled with on this project. I was a little sick on the 2nd week so didn't do anything, which meant I had very little time to do the whole of the project. If I had known that in advance I definitely wouldn't have given myself such an ambitious project as it was a lot of work to do. As I hadn't really done it before I didn't fully realise how time consuming video editing was or how long ink takes to dry for riso and screen printing, so now I know that I would have given myself much more time!
